Today marked the first day of many 'lasts' happening over the next few months. Today was Jake's LAST back poke. Crazy. Three years ago to the day, I never really believed we would get here. But we have and only have TWO more chemo treatments to go. (Actually, I am counting down by steroids dosages. Only TEN more DAYS total of steroids left to go. Thank the heavens.) Today also marks the third year of Jake's diagnoses. Three years. It is amazing how quickly it really has gone by. And we wouldn't change any of it.
Soooo.... I am thinking it is about time for a new post considering my husband has been on my case for the last three weeks telling me I am doing such a "great job" at keeping up on here. Obviously not. The boys had spring break a few weeks ago and considering that it is STILL not spring in the beautiful state of Utah, I decided to take them somewhere that it is spring. I have learned this year that I do not do well in the months of january and february and march. It is cold and dark and depressing. Living in a basement has not helped. But the trip to St. George and "Lost" Vegas did! It was HOT and sunny and we got to swim and go to the lake. It was wonderful. And made the snow that we came home to a little more bearable.
Jeff did not come with us because of work, so I took the boys and my little sister came along. We drove to St. George on Monday and then went to Vegas on wednesday. Some of the highlites of our trip were...
--arriving in St. George and Crew being so exhausted he started crying, saying he just wanted to 'go to St. George'. We told him that is where we were at, which in turn made him cry harder. (don't mind the older two 'helping' boys in the background. We call it "brotherly love" in our house.)
--Crew calling St. George "Curious George". This happened a few times which made us all giggle.
--The AWFUL trip to walmart late at night. All three boys were crying by the end of the shopping excursion. Can you say overly exhausted??
--The best part of the house we stayed in was the slide that went from the top floor to the basement. If we ever build a house, you can be sure we will be putting one of those babies in. Even if we are 102. It is the funnest thing of all time and all the boys wanted to do.
--Snuggling in bed and watching early morning cartoons
--Playing at the beach at sand hollow and trying running away from the red fire ants
--lizard hunts and bunny hunts
--If any of you know Cole, he is our collector. He has about 50+ collections going on in his room. Someone had shot bb's at the house and he started collecting the bb's. And then he found some rocks he just HAD to bring home. And then he tried to keep a roly poly he found somewhere. I drew the line there. No bugs allowed.
--M&M factory in Vegas. Cole decided it would be fun to fill a bag with m&m's at the machines in the back. By the time we caught him, it was almost overflowing. We left the bag there. It was fun trying to keep my older boys eyes diverted from all of the wonderful signs donning the streets on the strip. Seriously. Ya gotta love Vegas. One of the shops had a bubble blower of a man blowing bubbles out of his butt. They were on the ground laughing hysterically at this point. Boys.
--THE SUN. And laying by the pool. And being warm. Serious withdrawals were going on without having the sun close by.
--playing monkey in the middle:)
--Making Crew sleep in the bathroom because he sounded like a dying bear when he was sleeping. His snoring is truly worse than anything you have ever heard.
--eating the BIGGEST donuts you have ever seen every morning for breakfast
--And mostly just enjoying the down time without having to worry about anything else. It was such a fun and much needed trip even though Jeff was not able to come.
