Being in the children's cancer club is interesting.  It is actually more than heart wrenching most of the time.  I am sure it is because we are so much more aware of the cancer community and what is going on in the hospital.  You get to know a lot of families.  And there is a surprising number of families that are dealing with childhood cancer.  It is almost unreal.  I remember talking to our doctor when Jake was first diagnosed.  At the time, we knew no one who had gone through anything like this.  Her perspective was very different.  She knew no kids that did not have cancer.  And in her mind, "everyone has it".  In my mind, one kid that has it is one to many.  In the last three months, we know of six children that have lost their lives to cancer.  Six.  That is a lot.  There is a girl we know in the PICU fighting for her life right now.  It is so unfair.  It is not fair that they have to lose their innocence at such a young age.  And it is not going to get any better until a cure is found.  Unfortunately and again, surprisingly, childhood cancer is underfunded.  Most of the research is done by donations and the only company that gives most of their proceeds to childhood cancer is Curesearch.  Jake has actually been on numerous studies that are funded by Curesearch.  They are doing a walk in september this year to raise money.  We desperately need to find a cure and this is one way to help!  We are starting a team in Jake's name and would love any and all of you to come walk with us.  We will not be doing any fundraising this year due to the benefits we have had for Jake, but would love to have a team to walk with us.  The date is September 29th and is located in Sugarhouse Park.  Check in time is between 8:00 and 9:00 am.  The opening ceremony and walk is between 9:00 and 12:00.  The cost to register is $10 per person, and free for those under 15 years old.  If you would like to join our team click here and it will take you to our registration page.  We are also going to be making shirts for our team.  Please let me know if you would like one.  I am not sure on the cost yet.  We are trying to find some that do not cost to much!  Thanks so much for your support!
