REMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our doctor called today with some good news. All of Jake's tests show that his cancer is in remission. None of his cells showed any sign of leukemia!!!!!! We are really excited and very grateful. He is in the Low Risk category and his treatments will follow the low risk pattern. He still has 5 months of weekly chemo and another 2.5 years of monthly chemo, but we fell very lucky. He has a spinal tap for the next 3 Tuesday's and he has to get a very painful shot in a week or so. So, things won't get really easy for a while but he has NO leukemia cells in his body right now! The doctors know they can get rid of the cancer the first month, but they can't keep it that way if they don't keep working on him. But after what we've gone through the last week, we feel very lucky to be where we are. Jake is such a fighter and is doing good. In fact, we finally got him to take some pain medicine today for the first time in a month. Well, he liked it so much, he had some more when he could!!!!!! It's made for a very good day. The steroid has done so much destruction to his little body. His legs are barely strong enough for him to stand and he has trouble walking. We have to walk with him because his legs keep giving out on him and he keeps falling down when he walks by himself. Heidi took some pictures I am going to put on later today of him so you can see the new and improved Jakers. His face and belly have gotten fluffy but he has lost most of his muscle. Anyhow, thought I would give you an update. We are SO very grateful for the prayers and thoughts that we have received.

This is the best news!!! Jakers fought his way through the first few weeks like a champ--and has beat the first battle. We will keep praying for him, because the kids won't let us forget!!!

We love that word - Remission. It is so great. Isn't it amazing that doctors know how to get your body to do that..and eventually keep it there. Very cool.

What a relief! I bet you are thrilled. It sounds like it is still a bit of a tough road ahead but at least you know he is in remission. That is so wonderful. I was reading back through some of your blogs and this one caught my eye. I want to get in touch with you about the affects the steroids had on Jake. Our little Livi is suffering from extreme muscle fatigue/loss. She is bone thin and reading your post I was wondering if it was the same. I believe Steve gave you my contact info...please call when you can.
